Police Identify Dogtown Shooting Victim
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – A double shooting in the Dogtown neighborhood leaves a woman dead and a man in critical but stable condition.
It happened just before 6 A.M. Thursday at a townhouse complex called Oakland Place, in the 6600 hundred block of Oakland avenue in West St. Louis.
Police identify the dead woman as Tequila Sanford, 26. The man`s name is not being released. On Thursday afternoon he was listed in critical but stable condition. Police say he is in his mid 20`s.
The units are mostly condos, and according to the neighbors, generally quiet and safe.
After neighbors heard multiple gunshots, police were called. When officers arrived, they found the couple on the ground, just a few steps away from their front door.
Both had been shot in the head. The two lived together in one of the complex`s few rental units.
“You don`t know if it is random,” said neighbor Melissa Mandel. “I am scared now. Regardless of what it is. It hit a little too close to home this time.”
According to another neighbor, the man had lived in Oakland Place only since August and the woman even less time, so few residents knew them.
“Hopefully it is not a trend, hopefully it`s an anomaly,” said John Donahoe, who lives in an apartment building adjacent to Oakland Place.
“You just have to treat it as kind of a crazy thing that happened. I mean I don`t even lock my car. It is that safe around here,” he said.
A neighbor tells FOX 2 he thought the man was a student, studying nursing at Forest Park Community College.
He did not know anything about the woman.
As of Thursday evening, police had made no arrests.
