Sales At Gun Show Increase After Sandy Hook Massacre
ST. CHARLES, MO (KTVI) – The debate about gun laws that followed the Dec. 14 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School has increased the demand for guns, according to gun dealer Doug Buckman.
Buckman said he sold more than 60 guns at a gun show in St. Charles on Saturday.
“People are afraid some laws will be passed that take away their rights,” Buckman said.
He added that prices have also increased.
Organizers of the RK Gun and Knife Show said Saturday’s show set a record for attendance. Many argue that mass shootings are proof that the current gun laws are not strong enough, but Buckman said gun laws aren’t the problem.
“The real issue is mental health,” he said. “That is what needs to be addressed.”
Buckman said he did a background check on every person who bought a gun from him.
“Otherwise, I won’t sell it to them,” he said.
Vice President Joe Biden is leading a task force aimed at curbing gun violence.
