(KTVI) – The half brother of President Barack Obama is getting into politics in Kenya.  Bloomberg News reports Malik Obama, who shares a father with President Obama, says he plans to run for governor of a western Kenyan county.

Malik Obama reportedly made the announcement at a gathering on Sunday.  He says he’ll run as an independent and use his relationship with President Obama to talk about issues like poverty and unemployment.

The election will be Kenya’s first since 2007.
