ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The Baseball Cardinals Winter Warm-Up kicks off this weekend. It is the biggest fundraiser for Cardinals Care.
Director and Youth Baseball Commissioner Keith Brooks said Cardinals Care has funded work to refurbish and build youth ballparks across the metro area.
‘Each field runs in the low six figures,’ Brooks explained. ‘That`s for irrigation, lighting which is oftentimes solar.’
That was just a short list of specifications for the ballparks, one of which is All-Star Field at North St. Louis` Herbert Hoover Boys` and Girls` Club.
‘Of course, it sits in the shadow of the former Sportsmans` Park,’ Brooks spoke of the home field for the old St. Louis Browns and St. Louis Cardinals.
But, Brooks said the multi-million-dollar fundraiser is not just about baseball.
‘We hold health fairs. Kids have been diagnosed with asthma, minor hearing loss, found out they needed glasses.’
So, the Hyatt Regency braced for thousands of fans to file through and get an autograph from their favorite Cardinal player. They also prepared to launch the Cardinals Caravan Friday morning. More players and some alumni would visit the citizens of Cardinal Nation in four states.
