WENTZVILLE, MO (KTVI) – An Ameren spokesperson says 11,300 customers in Wentzville, Missouri, lost power around 8:00am Tuesday. Scheduled maintenance took power off a main line, but the backup equipment failed at a sub station, causing the outage.
About half the customers regained power within 15 minutes, and the other half were restored by 8:35am.
Wentzville police Captain Kevin Pyatt says the department activated its reverse 911 call system to tell residents about warming centers.
Pyatt says officers went door-to-door to check on elderly residents.
Ameren officials say they do not know why a nearby substation broke down. They are investigating why the backup equipment failed.
Wentzville police say they will keep those warming centers ready in case the city loses electricity again.
