Collinsville Parents Upset Over Elementary School Being Closed
COLLINSVILLE, IL. (KTVI) – Some parents in the Collinsville Unit 10 School District told FOX2 that district officials need to “hit the brakes” on a redistricting plan.
The district is considering two proposals.
Each would result in redistricting, and one would result in Twin Echo Elementary School being turned into a preschool.
The proposals are aimed at saving the district money in its transportation fund, but some parents are not convinced either will work.
“The plans don’t make sense, and we think then need to start from the drawing board,” Twin Echo PTA President Lindsay Serrano said.
Serrano said the plan would force her son to leave the only school he has ever known.
“It just is not fair to him, and it is not fair to the other kids,” she said.
Hundreds of kids would be impacted.
Serrano said many parents are also upset because the district recently got a million dollar football field at the high school.
“Now they want us to sacrifice a school to save money,” she said. “It does not make sense.”
The school board is scheduled to meet on Jan. 28 to talk about the proposals.
“I will be there, and I hope they don’t do this,” Serrano said.
District officials told Fox 2 that the proposals are “only being considered.”
