ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– The funeral for Stan Musial is Saturday morning and many fans are wondering what famous names from major league baseball will be in attendance.
We’re told the commissioner Bud Selig does plan on attending.
As far as hall of famers that list will be highlighted by the Cardinals in Cooperstown, like Ozzie Smith, Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, Red Schoendienst and Whitey Herzog..
Willie Mays and Hank Aaron are unable to make it.
Another issue is that Earl Weaver, also in the hall of fame, has his funeral at the exact time Saturday in Florida.
The hall of fame will be represented by Jeff Idelson, the current president of the hall.
We’re told Joe Torre, the Cardinals former player and manager, will catch a flight from New York City on Saturday morning. Torre and his wife Ali we’re very close with both Stan and Lil Musial. Torre has said often, if Stan Musial invited you to dinner you always said yes. Torre was never a teammate with Musial, but did play against him when Torre was on the Milwaukee Braves.
Tony LaRussa is flying in from Chicago that morning. Some current players, like Jason Motte will attend, along with former players like Jim Edmonds.
The Cardinals have also heard from Albert Pujols Saying that he may also be at the Basilica.
FOX 2 and News Eleven coverage of Stan Musial’s funeral will begin at 10 a.m.
You will be able to see the funeral, the procession from the Cathedral to Busch Stadium and the prayer service at Busch Stadium.
