ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Ten people were arrested Tuesday in a peaceful protest in downtown St. Louis.
Hundreds of coal miners and their relatives marched, demanding fair treatment from three local coal companies.
The protest is because the company Patriot Coal has made efforts to cancel health care obligations for retirees through a bankruptcy proceeding.
Patriot is made up of coal firms once owned by Peabody Energy and Arch Coal.
The world's largest coal producer, Peabody Energy, denies not meeting the responsibility for retirees.
The miners are promising more protests in St. Louis as the case moves through the federal bankruptcy court in town.
