NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI)– On Sunday night Shai Clark became a victim of not one but two burglaries inside of her castle point home over a 72-hour period. During the first theft thieves got in through the basement, less than two days later they entered through the kitchen window. Clark has a security system but says both times thieves broke in between 6 and 8pm.
The single mother of two says the burglars took her Nintendo Wii and came back trashing the rest of her home they also took her new 50″ big screen tv. Clark says the home she hoped to purchase is now a place of unrest. She also thinks thieves are who might be teenagers are watching homes because it’s tax refund season.
St. Louis County Police Capt. Troy Doyle says burglaries dropped 23- percent between 2011 and 2012 in north county, but adds there are times when it spikes in transient areas like castle point, an area filled with vacant homes. He also says it`s not unusual for a home to get hit more than once for copper piping.
Police are stepping up patrols and hopes the community will come together and build a neighborhood watch program.
Clark is currently living with family and is still deciding whether or not she wants to stay in the home.
