Illini Dominates Early, but Flat 2nd Half, leads to Loss at Michigan State

The Fighting Illini Mens basketball team got off to a great start at Michigan State on Thursday night, leading 8-0 early and 37-27 at halftime. But the Spartans started the second half on a 14-0 run and never looking back in beating Illinois 80-75. Michigan State outscored the Illini 53-38 in the 2nd half.

Tracy Abrams scored 16 points to lead Illinois. D.J. Richardson scored 14, while Brandon Paul added 13 points and Myke Henry 11. The loss sends the Illini to just 2-6 in Big Ten play and 15-7 overall.

Michigan State led by Keith Appling’s 24 points, improve to 18-4 on the season and 7-2 in the Big Ten.
