Nationwide Effort To Beef Up School Security

WILDWOOD, MO (KTVI)-- Area police and school officials shared ideas Thursday to strengthen security and protect students and staff from so-called "active" intruders.

The safe schools partnership has been active for more than a decade, but the Connecticut school shooting has prompted members to take a fresh look at their security plans and equipment.

Most middle and high schools already have uniformed police resource officers on duty.  The real expense will be adding security cameras and changing locks on classroom doors.
