ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – A man was shot several times inside a car near Gano and 20th Street in north St. Louis Friday morning. That is near Grand in the College Hill Neighborhood.

The victim, a 40 year old black man, was in a red Chevy Cobalt, which he crashed into a light pole. Neighbors heard the collision and called police. The driver was critically injured and taken to the hospital.

Police believe the man may have been shot a block away at 20th and Prairie, then was able to drive to Gano where he crashed. It all happened around 8:30am. The suspected shooter is described as a 18-20 year old black male wearing a black hoodie and driving a black Dodge Avenger

Residents and politicians are very concerned with the recent uptick in violence in their neighborhoods. 21st Ward Alderman Antonio French says the College Hill Neighborhood, which is near his ward, is a concern.

French is hosting an emergency town hall meeting Saturday at 10:00am at the new Rec. Center in O’Fallon Park. One police major and two captains are scheduled to attend to address the residents.

French says there have been two murders in the College Hill Neighborhood in the last week; last Friday night on Desoto and Saturday morning on Linton. Friday’s shooting and accident could make three. He says there was also an additional shooting Monday at West Florissant and College.
