(CNN) – The former Navy SEAL who reportedly fired the shot that killed Osama bin Laden says he has no pension or medical insurance.

The man, known only as “the shooter” detailed his frustration to Esquire Magazine.

He says he lost health coverage when he left the military last year.

The article also includes details about the raid on bin Laden’s Pakistani compound.

The author spoke to CNN about what “the shooter” told him about coming face-to-face with the world’s most wanted man.

“Yes, he does. He talks in some detail about being the second man, after the point man, going up to the third floor and the point man grabbed two women who were from the bin Laden household in the hallway, pulled them aside and the shooter rolled into the bedroom on the right-hand side and, ultimately, right there faced Osama bin Laden, less than a foot away from his gun, and shot him there, three times in the forehead.”

“The shooter” also claims he has no protection for himself or his family from possible retaliation.

The magazine reports he has trained his children to hide in their bathtub and taught his wife to use a gun.

According to the article, “the shooter” says the family was offered a witness-protection like program…

but reportedly no such program exists for the military.

“The shooter” says he is buying private insurance, but it does not cover some of his treatments, like chiropractic care.

According to the article, the government does provide 180 days of transitional health care benefits, but “the shooter” is only eligible if he agrees to remain on active duty in a support role.
