SAUGET, IL (KTVI) - Sauget police say the death of 24-year-old west county woman appears to be a tragic accident. Brooke Bahmler was driving a car with her sister and a friend inside, when she tried to turn around on Route 3 near Yellow Brick Road.
Police Chief Patrick Delaney says another vehicle T-boned that car and than resulted in the death of Brooke Bahmler.
"We don't believe alcohol was involved in this unfortunate accident," said Delaney.
Bahmler was driving with her 22-year-old sister, Abigail and a friend, Alexis Hoester. Delaney said both of those women suffered serious injuries but will survive.
Bahmler's brother, Mike Doyon, wanted to emphasize the police department's initial finding that alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
"She (Brooke) did not drink," said Doyon. He said his sister Brooke had just finished an associate's degree and worked at the Gravois Bluff Lion's Choice. That's also where her sister and Hoester worked.
Delaney said Bahmler left Laclede's Landing and accidentally took the Illinois exit by mistake. Delaney says Bahmler took the Route 3 exit and tried to make a quick U-turn after turning right on Yellow Brick Road. He says she was trying to head back home.
Police received the call to respond to the crash at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday.
"I guess that she thought that it was clear and when she pulled out into south bound Route 3," said Delaney.
The driver of the other vehicle was treated and released from an area hospital.
