You Paid For It: St. Clair County Board Medical Benefits

BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI) – A St. Clair County Board Member gave a strange answer when I asked why taxpayers were spending so much to provide them with free health insurance. Board Member Willie McIntosh spoke with us after a Council committee meeting which he sits on.

His replay to my question was, “I’m Retarded.”

That answer made no sense. Did you know that you are paying the St. Clair County board members a salaries of up to $19,000?

The position also provides free health insurance for members. You’re paying out $10,279 a year for their health insurance. All for a part time job that meets once a month. You pay a total of $236,000 a year provide Health insurance for 23 of the 29 members of the board.

Meanwhile the Madison County Board is moving in the opposite direction. They voted to slash in half what you’re paying for their health benefits. Now it’s costing taxpayers just $240 dollars a month and just 7 of the 29 Madison County Board Members are taking that. For now the St. Clair County Board isn’t taking a page out of that book to save you money.
