MADISON, IL (KTVI) – A Metro East home burned to the ground after an early morning fire. Now the search is on for what caused the fire.
Authorities for a time were searching for a possible victim. But fortunately, crews did not find anyone in the rubble. And rubble is basically all that`s left of the home on Booker Street near Route 203 just outside the Madison city limits.
A Madison police officer on patrol noticed smoke in the area about 3am this morning.
Firefighters from four different departments responded to battle the fire and get it out.
Investigators say there is a man in his early 50`s who owns the property and lives in the home on and off.
At this point, they believe he likely wasn`t here when the fire started. Investigators tell us the home was only 30` by 30` and didn`t take long to burn. Authorities call the fire suspicious.
They say there were no utilities running to the home. The state fire marshal is being called in to assist with the investigation.
