Man On ATV Robs Maryville ATM
MARYVILLE, IL (KTVI)–Maryville Police are looking for a man who robbed two bank employees restocking an ATM Friday morning. The robbery happened around 10:20am at the First Collinsville Bank branch located off IL Rt. 159 near the I-55/70 interchange.
The suspect was wearing camouflage and goggles and riding in a Club Car golf cart retrofitted to look like an all-terrain vehicle when he approached two tellers working on an outdoor ATM. He told them to get out of the way and then removed canisters containing cash from the machine. He did not display a weapon.
At about 2:00pm Friday afternoon, a woman returned to her home on Troy Road, less than a half mile from the bank. She saw extra tire tracks in her snowy driveway.
“Something’s not right,” Elisha Fink said immediately. “Pretty much, I just followed the tracks around seeing the ATV.”
She had just come home from work, but wasted no time calling police. She soon welcomed over a dozen unexpected guests.
“Between Madison County, Maryville, Collinsville, CSI, Auto Theft, and the FBI,” she remembered.
She said FBI agents spray painted the suspect’s footprints in the fresh snow and followed the trail. It ended at Will-Vina Drive and Fairlane Drive. Fink said the suspect’s unusual clothes helped him avoid a trip to jail that day.
“He’s smart for the gear, this time of year of course,to blend,” she explained. “Being amongst people who hunt and stuff, a lot of people wear the camo gear.”
Fink watched her kids’ snow day be interrupted by a manhunt.
“Didn’t do much sledding afterwards,” she laughed.
One FBI agent calmed Fink’s oldest daughter by spray painting the girl’s footprint in the snow. The mother of two was grateful, but still shaken.
“I don’t wonder around at night out here. And during the day, I probably will not let my children play out here alone anymore.”
Maryville Police are being very tight-lipped in this case and will not confirm any details. An update may not be available until Monday.
