NEW YORK, NY – If you’ve always wished you could sail on the Titanic, without the sinking part, here’s your chance. An Australian billionaire is building a replica of the original luxurious ocean liner. Mining tycoon Clive Palmer unveiled the blueprints for the massive ship Wednesday.
“I can assure you that from the safety point of view it will be absolutely the most safe cruise ship in the world when it’s been launched.” said Professor Clive Palmer.
The Titanic II will follow the same path as its namesake from Southampton, England to New York City.
It will also have the same interior and cabin layout as the original and passengers will wear costumes from that era.
Palmer says there is already big interest.
Some people have reportedly offered to pay up to one million dollars per cabin.
More than 1,500 people died on April 15, 1912 after the Titanic hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic during its maiden voyage.
It was the world’s largest and most luxurious ocean liner at the time. Titanic II is expected to set sail in 2016.
