ELSBERRY, MO (KTVI)-- Students in a small Lincoln County community are dealing with the death of one of their own who died in an early morning crash.
Students and teachers at Elsberry Senior High are mourning the death of 17-year-old Jillian Young who passed away after a car accident just before 7 Monday morning. It all happened along Missouri 79 just outside of Winfield.
Young's 62-year-old father was driving when the accident happened. He was driving her to school when the accident happened.
They were part of a chain reaction crash with three other cars.
The popular junior and cheerleader died from her injuries.
She along with everyone else involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, however investigators say Jillian's was not properly secured .
Students at her close knit high school are devastated.
The Missouri Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
FOX 2 also spoke to the district who gave us the following statement:
"We are shocked at saddened by the loss of Jillian Young. We want to let the Lovelace and Young families know the entire district is deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Our hearts go out to them during this difficult time."
The school has extra counseling resources available for as long as necessary.
