(KTVI) – A British father and son were hiking the Alps when Charlie, 12 fell into a deep gully. According to Daily Mail, the father, Peter Saunders immediately called emergency services.

While on the phone with emergency services, Saunders fell into what was believed to be the same gully as his son. He was unable to give responders his location before the conversation was cut off.

It wasn’t until authorities were able to contact Mrs. Saunders and get pictures she had received from Mr. Saunders that morning, that they were able to pin point the father and son’s location.

Sixteen hours after the distress call, the bodies of Saunder’s and Charlie were found. Authorities say they were hiking on snow covered trails without the proper gear for the weather conditions.
