A bullet went through the victim's hand and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Officers from the Third Precinct responded to the scene. This all happened just before midnight inside a house on Philo.
St. Louis County Police say three men were sitting on the couch watching television. One of the men, a 21-year-old, had a .40 caliber and a .45 caliber handgun with him. Investigators say a man in his early 20s put a .40 caliber bullet into the .45 gun.
Police say the man didn't think it would go off because it had a different caliber round in it, but when he pulled the trigger, it did go off sending the bullet right through his hand.
At that point, police say the legal owner of the guns panicked and hid the guns in the backyard of a neighboring home. The victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
County police officers eventually found the guns and arrested the 21-year-old owner for interfering with an investigation because he wouldn't tell them where the guns were. The charge is an ordinance violation.
