(KTVI) – The superintendent of the area’s largest school district could be leaving the area.  Rockwood Superintendent is up for a new job in Tennessee.  A Rockwood School District spokesperson did confirm that Bruce Borchers is one of three finalists for superintendent of the Oak Ridge School District.

According to Patch.com, Borchers and his family was invited back for a city tour and a meet and greet with Oak Ridge residents.

The Rockwood School District has been under scrutiny after a state audit showed the district wasted millions on construction.  The audit calls Rockwood out for spending $1.2 million in extra fees for construction management work without approving contract changes.

In February, a Rockwood citizen’s group that helped bring about the audit called for the Superintendent Borchers to step down. The group says Borchers gave big consulting contracts to former Minnesota co-workers when he first arrived in town. Since then, the district has gone through a budget crisis, according to the group.

Rockwood school board member Steve Smith resigned shortly after the audit was released.

If Borchers is chosen for the Tennessee job and accepts, it would be a pay cut.
