(KTVI) – It’s National “Something On A Stick” day and Carol Hurst, from Olde Town Spice Shoppe, showed Tim how to put the best thing on a stick – bacon!

Olde Town Spice Shoppe Candied Bacon on a Stick

4 cups granulated sugar
4 cups water
1 lb of thick-cut bacon
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoon dry mustard
½ tsp cayenne pepper, ground (optional)
½ teaspoon black pepper
Nonstick cooking spray

Preheat oven to 375 F.

Combine granulated sugar and water in a medium saucepan; bring to a boil. Add bacon and cook 5 minutes or until bacon appears cooked around edges. Drain on a rack or plate until cool enough to handle.

Thread each strip of bacon onto a wooden barbeque (bamboo) skewer. Combine brown sugar, mustard, and pepper in a shallow dish. Place strip of  bacon in the brown sugar mixture,  pressing sugar mixture on both sides. Place bacon on the rack of a broiler pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 375 F for 15 minutes or until crisp, turning bacon halfway through cooking time. Cool completely. Enjoy!
