MOLINE ACRES, MO (KTVI) – A six-year-old girl is forgotten on a school bus for more than six hours. The little girl, Ta’ Corya Watson, fell asleep on the way to school. She wasn’t awakened until 2:30 pm Friday afternoon by a bus driver checking the bus before picking up students for the ride home.
The driver claims she didn't see the child and left her in the bus after parking for the day.
Catherine Banks, the girl’s mother is very upset with the Riverview Gardens School District for not noticing her child was still on the bus when she was suppose to be at school.
As for the driver, the district issued a statement says, driver has been suspended without pay pending further investigation, and apologized to Catherine and Ta'Corya.
But Ta’Corya’s mother isn’t buying it and wants to press charges.
Here is the full Riverview Gardens School District statement on the incident:
“Earlier today it came to the attention of administrators that a student was left asleep on the school bus. Immediately upon notification, an investigation began and is ongoing. While all of the details are still being gathered, disciplinary and preventative measures are already in progress to ensure this does not happen again. The bus driver has been identified and is suspended without pay pending further investigation. Administrators have spoken to the mother and the student was not harmed, appearing to have been asleep the entire time. The district gives no excuse for what has happened and it extends its sincerest apology to the student and family.”
