“The hockey Gods took care of us tonight.” Those were the words of Blues Coach Ken Hitchcock after a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over the LA Kings to take game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Alex Steen scored both goals for the Blues including a stunning overtime winner after taking the puck from the Kings goalie Jonathan Quick. Quick stopped 35 of 36 shots in regulation to keep Los Angeles in the game. Justin Williams tied the game at 1 with just 31 seconds left in regulation. That was the only goal given up by Brian Elliott. The Steen goal in overtime came as the Blues were just beginning a four minute penalty kill. Game Two is Thursday night at 8:30pm at Scottrade Center.
