Man Sentenced To Life For Role In Knockout Game
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Elex Murphy was sentenced today for his role in the deadly knockout game incident. The St Louis City Circuit attorney office confirms he will be serving life plus 25 years.
Hoang Nguyen, 72, and his wife Yen had been shopping at a Vietnamese market in the 3900 block of South Grand Saturday morning just as they did every weekend when they were attacked by a group of two men and two women in an alley behind the 3800 block of Spring.
Mrs. Ngyuen survived it but Mr. Ngyuen did not. “It is terrifying but until they get everyone in custody, until everyone has been interviewed we are just not going to have the facts,” said 15th ward Alderman Jennifer Florida.
18-year old Elex Murphy, from North St. Louis, is charged with 1st degree murder, first degree assault and armed criminal action. Police say Murphy, along with the others, randomly attacked the Nguyens as part of something called “The Knockout Game.”
