Over 11K Runners Partake In Girls On The Run

ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – More than eleven thousand people packed the streets of downtown St. Louis near the Soldier's Memorial including an Olympic runner, for a special run.  36-hundred girls, ages eight to thirteen participated in the “Girls on the Run 5k” Saturday morning.

The crowd heard from Shannon Leinert, who qualified for the 2012 Olympics in the 800 meters.  She's a St. Louis native and attends the University of Missouri at Columbia.

“Girls on the Run”, stresses the value of self-esteem, self-confidence, healthy living and supporting each other.
