The Cardinals had battled back from a 4-2 deficit to tie the game in the 6th inning. Matt Carpenter and Jon Jay both singled in runs with two outs in the 6th to knot the game.

Lance Lynn started on the mound for the Cardinals and allowed four runs in five innings pitched. The Cardinals bullpen of Fernando Salas, Carlos Martinez, Trevor Rosenthal and Edward Mujica pitched four scoreless innings. Joe Kelly allowed the two 10th inning runs and took the loss to drop his season record to 0-2.
