The Cardinals got off to a quick start on Sunday in Oakland with a three run first inning, including back to back home runs by Carlos Beltran and Allen Craig, but Cardinals starter Jake Westbrook couldn’t hold that lead. The A’s came back and beat the Redbirds 7-5. Westbrook allowed six runs in just four innings pitched, including a go ahead 2 run home run to Jed Lowrie. The Cardinals defense was less than stellar too, committing two errors in the game.

The loss drops the Cardinals to two games back of NL Central leading Pittsburgh. The Pirates beat the Brewers 2-1 in 14 innings on Sunday to add to their division lead. The Cardinals are now halfway through their 2013 season. After 81 games, the Redbirds record is 49-32. Up next, the Cardinals go to Anaheim, CA for a three game series against Albert Pujols and the Angels starting Tuesday, July 2nd.
