Cowboys Josh Brent retiring from NFL after fatal crash

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– Dallas Cowboys player Josh Brent is retiring from the NFL as he awaits trial for the crash that killed his friend and teammate.

Brent is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of Vashion High School football star and cowboys player Jerry Brown, Jr.

JERRY BROWNAuthorities believe Brent had been drinking and driving when he crashed his car in December killing Brown.

Brent said in a statement his retirement is the right decision and something he has deeply thought about.

The retirement announcement came the day before the Dallas Cowboys were set to arrive in California for the start of training camp.

Brent faces trial later this year.
