MOLINE ACRES, MO (KTVI) - Riverview Gardens' special three member board will meet behind closed doors to select a second school district to which they'll provide free bus transportation for students.

Riverview Gardens had selected the South County Mehlville School District as the only one where students transferring out of this unaccredited district could get free bus transportation. But, the Mehlville District has said it can only accept around 150 of the 350 Riverview Gardens students who've applied. Now, Riverview Gardens will select a second district to which kids transferring out can get free school bus rides.

This is important because the deadline for applying out is Thursday. A lottery by the co-operating school districts Friday will determine where some students end up. But Monday night's selection of a second district where students can get free bus transportation will change that whole process. The Mehlville District says they need a decision from Riverview Gardens on another district as soon as possible.

"What I still don't have information about is how the transportation is going to get those students to their homes." said Superintendent, Mehlville School District Dr. Eric Knost. "It is their responsibility to figure out how to transport their students."

This only affects the kids transferring out of Riverview Gardens. The other unaccredited district, Normandy, has picked St. Charles County's Francis Howell District where their students can get free bus rides. Francis Howell says it has plenty of room for Normandy students.
