One person killed in fiery wrong-way crash on I-64

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A horrible wrong way crash on Highway 40 in midtown early Friday morning left a man dead and a woman seriously hurt.

It happened at Highway 40 and Jefferson in the eastbound lanes about 2:00 a.m.
Police say the female driving a Jeep was going west in the eastbound lanes of Highway 40 and slammed into the man's car.

That man is identified as 26-year old Ryan Roach of Glen Carbon, IL. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a popular DJ and aspiring musician.

The female driver, 26, driving the wrong way survived.  Investigators say that driver is being treated at a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

No charges have yet been filed against the female driver. Police don't yet have any indication about whether drugs or alcohol might have been involved.

Highway 40 was completely closed both ways for a short time immediately after the crash.   The westbound lanes reopened but Highway 40 east in the area remain closed for about three and a half hours while accident reconstruction crews investigated the wreck.
