Pirates starting pitcher Francisco Liriano dominated the Cardinals hitters throwing a complete game, while allowing just one run on four hits in Pittsburgh’s 5-1 win over the Cardinals on Wednesday night at Busch Stadium.

The Pirates struck for two runs in the second inning off Cardinals starter Shelby Miller. Pedro Alvarez and Garrett Jones both hit solo home runs off Miller to break out to an early lead. A Costly error in the 4th inning opened the flood gates for three more Pirates runs, giving them a 5-0 lead.

The Cardinals scored their only run in the 9th inning on a Carlos Beltran ground out that scored Matt Carpenter who had doubled earlier in the inning.

The win raises the Pirates lead over the Cardinals in the NL Central Division to three games. The deciding game of this three game series will be Thursday afternoon at 12:45 PM at Busch Stadium. Lance Lynn will pitch for the Cards.
