“Operation Wild Wild East” nets 58 arrests

EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI)-- A major drug round up is underway in the Metro East and authorities say it will make a dent on the cocaine and heroin traffic.

Illinois state police officers have been working undercover in very dangerous conditions for the past three months, targeting East St. Louis, Brooklyn, Washington Park and Alorton.

Fifty-eight suspects have been charged.  They are described as mid-level drug dealers, now facing charges of dealing in cocaine and heroin delivery.  Some of the suspects face firearms and armed violence charges.  Thirty-three defendants have been apprehended and Illinois State Police Department released undercover video of the 25 suspects still at large. They are hoping the public will call Crimestoppers if you can identify the drug dealers.

The charges against the suspected drug dealers were filed on Monday the U.S. Marshal’s agents began taking them into custody on Tuesday and they are continuing the round up of "Operation Wild Wild East” Friday.
