Hot dog vendor beaten with hammer for cell phone

FERGUSON, MO, (KTVI) – Ferguson police are looking for four suspects in a brutal beating outside a Home Depot.

It happened Wednesday afternoon on New Halls Ferry.

The suspects stole a hammer from a Home Depot, according to police.

They also stole a hot dog vendor’s cell phone.

When that vendor tried to get it back one of the suspects started hitting him in the head with the hammer, according to police.

“That is crazy,” Home Depot customer Darrin Johnson said. “You can’t even escape that stuff at Home Depot!”

The hot dog stand was inside the Home Depot, but the beating happened in the parking lot.

The 45-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital and had surgery Thursday.

He is expected to survive.

He had been working at the hot dog stand for about a year.
