Police capture escaped prisoner Jared Carter near Indiana

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The Illinois Department of corrections confirms that escaped prisoner Jared Carter, 30, has been captured in Palestine Illinois. He was stopped while walking down the street in Palestine by police officers. They were at the scene because of a tip from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

When police asked him for identification he said, ““I’m who you’re looking for.” Carter then surrendered without any confrontation.

Jared Carter, 30, ran away from the Robinson Correctional Center minimum security prison near the Indiana border on Friday. Carter had been an inmate-trustee allowed to work on prison grounds, outside prison walls.

He is now being held in the Crawford County jail.
