Near Record Highs Tuesday, Schools Dismissing Early

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- It will be another day of big heat and humidity Tuesday across Missouri and Illinois. Temperatures will easily climb into the mid 90°s for highs, with the metro St. Louis area seeing highs in the upper 90°s.  The record high for Sept. 10 is 98° set back in 1933 and 1983.

With the high humidity, heat index values in the afternoon will be 100° or higher. There is a slight chance of pop thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, especially southeast of St. Louis.

The temperatures have prompted several schools to to dismiss students early on Tuesday.

One more very hot and humid day Wednesday then a cold front Wednesday night will bring a change in the weather. Look for a chance of rain showers Wednesday night and early Thursday then a cooler air mass starts to settle in.
