ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– Terri Odom was shocked when a friend called her and told her about Monday`s shooting at a Washington D.C. Naval Yard.

“Watching it unfold on television was heartbreaking,” said the retired  member of the U.S. Navy.  Odom was once stationed at the Naval Yard where victims were shot and killed.

“I know the base well.  I know every building there,” said Odom.

The Imperial resident has been an advocate for veteran`s issues.

“These were noble people just doing their job and for no reason whatsoever their lives were taken,” said Odom.

She said security on the base would be extremely high.

“This is a hard base to get on because everyone there has a top secret security clearance,” said Odom.

Now she hopes to find a way to help survivors and the victim`s families.

“We`ll do whatever we need to do to take care of these families and friends of these victims,” said Odom.  “We (veterans) stick together, always, forever.”
