St. Louis police swarm football game to protect fans and players
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– The St. Louis Metro Police Department sent more than 20 officers to protect fans and players at a high school football game Tuesday.
The game was between the Vashon and College Prep junior varsity teams and was at Roosevelt High School.
“It makes me feel more comfortable, but it is sad that it has come to this,” Rhonda Harshaw said.
The move comes after 16-year-old Chanucy Brown was shot to death moments after leaving a party attended by other teens from various high schools, including Vashon and College Preparatory at Madison. Another 16-year-old was taken into custody after the shooting.
After noticing several alarming posts on social media, police officers began to fear the violence would continue at Tuesday’s game.
“I think it is sad that we have families with kids here, and we have to worry about this stuff,” Meshia Carriger said.
There were no incidents at the game, but police say they will continue to monitor the situation.
