Wainwright and Offense Key to 9-1 Series Opening Win over Pirates

Adam Wainwright pitched seven innings, allowing just one run, while the Cardinals offense put up seven runs alone in the third inning. All that added up to a 9-1 series opening win over the Pirates in game one of the NLDS.

Carlos Beltran's three run homer off Pirates starter A.J. Burnett began the monster third inning. David Freese ended the scoring with a hit that scored three more runs. Yadier Molina added a sixth inning run scoring double to close out the scoring.

Wainwright pitched seven innings, allowing just one run, while striking out nine Pirates to get the win. Lance Lynn will pitch game two of this series for the Cards. Game time is 12:00 PM on Friday at Busch Stadium.
