ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – If you’re saving your $0.50 cents pieces or $2 bills for Metro Bus, save no more.  The transportation company says they will no longer accept the rarely used currency.

Fareboxes will still accept $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills.  They’ll also still take nickles, dimes and quarters.  Metro says it’s replacing 20-year-old equipment with new fareboxes that give passengers more detailed boarding information and faster pay options.

The fare collection change starts October 14.
