AFFTON, MO (KTVI)-- Lisa Miskimon makes it a point to visit the grave of her grandson Christoper Marks and has been for the last year. She and other family members were shocked to find that someone had vandalized his grave not once but at least four times at an Affton cemetery since his burial. The 12-year-old drowned at the Meramec River last August. Marks was given alcohol while out with friends by his stepfather, who was sentenced to a year for child endangerment.
"Leave him alone, leave us alone we have suffered enough. This was targeted no one else`s flower arrangements were touched," Miskimon said.
The most recent incident happened on September 23rd just two days after Christopher`s 14th birthday. Family members repaired the damage and returned days later to find more. Marks is buried along-side other members of his family.
"Another one of my children came over here on Tuesday the 24th and found a second bouquet had been destroyed and the cards left were ripped and thrown to the wind. I can`t fault the cemetery the caretaker he patrols through here," she said.
According to St. Louis County Police, there were reports of online posts about the incidentand they have multiple suspects in the case.
At this point Miskimon says the cemetery is paying close attention to the area to make sure no other damage is done. In the meantime, she and others in the family will remember the light and joy her grandson brought to their lives.
"He was just a great light, his eyes sparkedand they were the color of the sky and his laughter was musical and he was just a fun loving kid," she said.
