ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - The Cardinals didn’t clinch on Wednesday night, but instead of getting discouraged, Cardinal Nation is shifting its focus to Friday’s Game 6, and the excitement of playing, and winning, at home.
On Thursday, Busch Stadium crews were busy preparing the ballpark for one more home game. The seats were empty, as fans filled the team store to stock up. Cardinals fan Kathleen Harris says, “I came to get my Cardinals LA gear, I’m really hopeful they’re going to win tomorrow night, so I’m going to get all my t-shirts.”
She, and others, attempted to get Game 6 tickets at the stadium kiosks. But unfortunately, they didn’t have any luck.
St. Louis Cardinals Spokesperson Ron Watermon explains, “It’s sold out, it’s probably the hottest ticket in town, both Friday night and Saturday night.” World Series tickets also went on sale at 10 Thursday morning, and sold out in a matter of minutes. “Fans are excited about the prospect of a World Seriesand everybody wants to be part of it,” he adds.
“If we go to the World Series, we’re guaranteed at least two games in St. Louis, which we’re looking forward for that also,” says Caleco’s Manager Jim Barnes. Sports bars and restaurants like his are excited to serve fans this Friday, and they hope, for the rest of October. “Well the difference between a baseball day and a regular day is huge,” Barnes explains.
Fans, meanwhile, remain cautiously confident, especially after what happened during last year’s 3-1 lead against the Giants in the NLCS. But superstition in baseball can go both ways, and there's hope that Stan the Man will send down a win during the game that bears his number.
Watermon says, “We’ve really dedicated this entire season to Stan Musial. He embodies more than anybody the Cardinal way, so it would be really special to win it in Game 6.”
Fans still looking for tickets can keep checking the kiosks and Cardinals website, since tickets are sometimes returned from the opposing team. Stubhub.com, an official MLB partner, also carries tickets.
