ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- When the Cardinals are in post season play, fans take their team devotion to another level. It’s a time when Cardinal crazy becomes Cardinal normal.
People take their devotion of the red birds to another level.
Dr. Rick Goldberg has been collecting sports memorabilia since he was 11 years old. The orthodontist has four offices in the St. Louis area, and all are decorated with a variety of sports memorabilia. He has items representing football, hockey even a torch from the Olympics.
The Red Birds get a lot of attention in his collection. His favorite Card’s collectable is in his Fenton office. He bought the dug out at the old Busch Stadium which includes an actual bench.
Dr. Goldberg said, “I saw it was up for auction. I was building a new office. I’m a cardinal fanand I thought it would be great to have the old Cardinal dugout in my office.”
He owns hundreds of items. He knows the one thing he wants to add to his collection next. Goldberg said, “Collect some cardinal memorabilia from the 2013 World Series victory have a ball signed by everyone on the team.”
Fans that have a sweet tooth aren’t collecting Cardinal cookies, but they sure are eating them. Workers at Lubeley’s Bakery on Watson are busy turning out all sorts of delicious designs. During the regular season they sell 3 dozen a day but in the playoffs that number more than triples. Which player’s cookie sells the best?
Helen Lubeley Murray had the answer, “Whoever did really well in the game before whomever Adams, Molina, whoever it is that cookies goes off the shelves.”
The baked goods are so popular some people mail the cookies to Cardinal fans in other cities.
