(KTVI) – If Facebook frustrated you Monday morning, you were not alone. Facebook did not allow anyone to post status updates or like posts for about three hours.

People trying to post a status update got an error message. That message seemed to have changed at least once, then no error message appeared at all and posts would not go through.

According to Mashable, Facebook responded, saying the site was down due to maintenance issues:

“Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We’re sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused.”

According to DownRightNow.com, a website that tracks outages, Facebook experienced the outage for at least three hours.

In the absence of Facebook, some brands hopped on the chance to highlight the situation on Twitter, with posts favoring their own products. A bookstore suggested reading a book, a beer company asked if you were thirsty.

Other posters made fun of the outage and people’s responses on Twitter.
