Stan Musial painting unveiled at Missouri Athletic Club

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)–  What better night than this one for the un-veiling of a piece of Cardinals treasure in St. Louis.

It is truly a work of art by renowned painter Robert Templeton. Stan Musial`s wife had him do it in the late 60`s, about five years after Stan retired.

Templeton is known for presidential portraits, as well as famous paintings of civil rights leaders Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks.

This is certainly befitting the greatest Cardinal of all.

Stan`s son, Dick Musial flew up from his home in Florida, to unveil it at the Missouri Athletic Club on this special night, about 2 hours before the first pitch of game 1 of the World Series.  He says the portrait hung in Stan`s restaurant, Stan and Biggies, until it closed in 1986. It had been in Stan`s home office since then.

This dedication gave people goose-bumps Wednesday night, especially when Stan`s son read a poem he found just today left at his parents` grave site, months ago by a fan from San Antonio, Texas.
