EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KTVI)-- A group of student athletes bat SIUE teamed with an Edwardsville restaurant to help a homeless woman Monday.

The students were eating at the Wang Gang Asian Eats when they saw the woman digging in a trash can for food.

"We were in the warmth and just had a feeling like we could not live with ourselves if we did not help," SIUE Senior Jamil Mashni said."

The students invited the woman inside and offered to buy her dinner.

"It was an amazing night to put a smile on her face," Mashni said.

When the restaurant manager realized what was going on, she joined in on the giving.

"We discounted their entire meal," Megan Thornburg said. "It is paying it forward."

The manager also gave the woman a bag full of fried rice, meat and some juice.

Everyone involved said it was a great way to "start the holiday season."
