(KTVI) – The Jefferson Barracks Bridge was closed as a precaution for about an hour late Thursday night after 22 barges broke loose from the Illinois side of the Mississippi River.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.  Several commercial tugboats hit the water north of the bridge and worked quickly to regain control of the barges.

None of them hit the bridge.   The bridge was open again by Friday morning.
