Police say around 5:12 p.m. Thursday they received a call from the relatives of William J. Osborn who lived in the 1000 block of Osborn Lane in Lonedell. Relatives reported that they had not heard from Osborn and were concerned for his wellbeing. They went to the residence and did not receive a response.
After forcing their way in to the residence, relatives found Osborn on the floor dead from a gunshot wound.
Deputies began speaking with family members and friends of the victim. It was determined that firearms, a motorcycle, and the victim’s truck were missing from the residence. Investigators learned that the victim’s son had recently sold a firearm to a subject in St. Clair that belonged to the victim. It was also reported that father and son had a history of confrontations.
Deputies, St. Clair Police and troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol began looking for the son. The son was located at a residence in Crescent Lake Village in St. Clair. He was taken in to custody by St. Clair Police without incident. He later admitted to the homicide.
The victim’s truck was located in the city of St. Clair. The motorcycle and some firearms are still missing.
The suspect is a 33-year-old white male from St. Clair. His name is being withheld pending issuance of warrants. Warrants are being applied for on this date.
