ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Christmas Night was a violent night with several shootings, including one that was fatal, in St. Louis City and County.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police said their busy shifts started with a murder on Cottage Avenue and Sarah Street around 10:15pm Christmas.  Officers found two people had been shot in a car after a crash.  The driver, a man who may have been in his 40s, died at the hospital.  The 51-year-old male passenger survived with wounds in his back and arm.  He went to the hospital in critical but unstable condition.

Ferguson Police rushed to the Oakmont Townhomes Apartment Complex around 10:30pm Wednesday.  Police blocked off the area around the apartments on Northwinds Estates Drive near West Florissant Avenue.  Officers would not say much about this investigation, at first.  But, Ferguson Fire and EMS crews took a man to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.  He left the scene in stable condition.

Back in St. Louis City, police said a group of people had just been kicked out of Club Dante’s on Olive near Compton and near the Saint Louis University main campus.  Two cars drove west onto Lindell Boulevard just before 1:00am Thursday.  The passengers were shooting at each other, when one of those cars hit a third vehicle at Lindell and Vandeventer Avenue.

One of the suspect cars left the scene.  The driver of the second suspect car ran away, but was arrested a short time later.  Witnesses said they heard almost a dozen shots.  No one was hit, and no one was injured in the crash, but a resident in a nearby apartment said he found out about all of this when a bullet hit his air conditioning unit and woke him.

Then in Downtown St. Louis, police said four men were in their car outside a nightclub on Washington Avenue near 20th Street.  Around 2:30 a.m., someone fired several shots into the car. The 23-year-old driver was hit in the back. He went to the hospital in stable condition. The passenger suffered a graze wound to his buttocks and refused medical treatment.  The victims said they had no idea where the shots came from or who was firing on the car.

Police are still looking for several suspects in all of these crimes.

nothing good happens in the city after 10PM… Why weren’t these people home with their families on Christmas night? I have a job! I had to get up and go to work today, so I was home in bed, NOT GETTING SHOT AT!! How much of my tax money will go to care for this guy that got shot and survived? Why should I have to pay for his stupidity?

    • Mister Mister

Your ignorance is warranted buddy coming from a guy who has a JOB and also INSURANCE and also enjoyed myself with friends after 10PM in the city. your stereotypical b.s. warrant’s no response however, ignorance has no color. if that type of activity isn’t for you simply speak your peace and move on, but to insinuate that this is race related, well sir I would watch my ignorant tongue

        @Mister Mister

Ignorance, like crime, most definitely has a color—the color black. You race-bait all you want against anyone speaking the truth, but now that you’ve spoken your “peace,” it’s time to move on.

Anyone who denies this is a race issue is a liar, a coward, or a fool, possibly all three.

BTW, I’m white, and shooting up the town is most definitely not for me.

Such SUBTLE racism! But, sadly racism runs on BOTH sides and ALL sides are guilty of it, so I can’t really argue that’s not largely the case in this story. It’s just a sad fact that, for some unknown reason, blacks shoot other blacks with far more frequency over far more trivial differences than most people.

      • ByeByeToTheRite

While it’s impossible to argue against the fact that these are probably all largely black crimes, the part where Buddy, like most right-wingers, if SO FULL OF IT is where he thinks his tax money will pay for it. Well, maybe so. But that FACT is these costs are not NEARLY as high as the tax money HE PAYS to support an overblown, largely useless military and all the leeches who live off that entitlement (few of whom actually do any “work” or “fighting” for anything that matters to anyone here in the states), or the tax money HE PAYS to support tax breaks for the wealthy, or tax subsidies and welfare handouts to rich developers and private corporations like oil companies and Boeing. You right-wingers need to get over the LIE that black criminals and lazy people are what costs so much of our tax money, because it’s a CROCK. Handouts to RICH people and our bloated military costs 90% of our tax dollar. Someday even you may understand that – maybe.

lol Buddy does not speak truth. He is making assumptions based off of racism. Here is what this young professional knows. Most professionals are off work due to the holiday, thus allowing those that are single without young children to enjoy the night life. For all we know the fella shot may have a full time job with insurance. Even if he does not our tax dollars do not go to pay for his service. He will be billed and even if he cannot pay the privately owned hospital will simply right it off!!! Even folks with insurance depending on what medical services they require have unpaid bills!!! Let try and act like we have sense people. Ignorance has no colorline!!!

      • TK

Juventino – your ignorance about how insurance works is showing… Hospitals do not simply “write if off” as they are not in the business of giving services away for free. SOMEONE has to pay for those who do not have insurance nor for those that don’t pay their bills. That someone are those of us who have insurance and that is the reason why OUR premiums are so high. Also like Buddy said, this is not a race issue, but a personal responsibility issue. Sick and tired of those constantly playing the race card!

It sounds like you approve of this behavior, Buddy is correct. Anybody that has watched the news in the past five years knows where and where not to go, and when and when not to go in STLand surrounding areas. Even other countries are warning their citizens visiting STL to NOT go in certain areas. As far as all the medical bills, its either tax dollars or they write it off, as you say, either way, everybody loses. Do you not see a pattern here? Feel sorry for the man that breaks his leg and isn’t able to go to work to feed his family.

  • Buddy

apparently Jesus’ brother Larry doesn’t pay taxes..
YOUR money will pay to have the bullets taken out of these idiots too Larry. YOUR money will pay to have the trials, and YOUR money will pay for their drugs, that they will turn around and sell on the street.
    Let that sink in Larry.

    • ByeByeToTheRite

Yeah, Buddy, just like YOUR tax money was blown on Bush’s $1 TRILLION personal war in Iraq. Just like YOUR tax money was spent to send tens of thousands of service people home for the holidays from their cushy offices two states away. Just like YOUR tax money is being used to handout welfare to Boeing. Just like YOUR tax money helped pay for those tax breaks for the wealthy that didn’t create jobs. Just like YOUR tax money pays for wealthy develpers to make a profit for building failing shopping malls. And on and on. Maybe that will sink in to you someday. Unless you’re hopelessly brainwashed by Reagan, Rush, Palin and O’Reilly.

      • TK

Not sure where you get your information Bye Bye… But according to the Center on Budget and Policy Provisions here is the breakdown of where our taxes went in 2012. 19% on defense and international security assistance, 22% on social security, 21% on Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP, 12% for safety net programs (programs that provide aid to individual and families facing hardships), 6% to interest on debt, 7% to benefit for federal retirees and vets, 3% transportation infrastructure, 2% education, 2% science and medical research, 1% non security international, and 5% all other…. My research does not indicate as to where your “90% of our taxes go to handouts to the rich and bloated military costs.” Please enlighten us as to where you got this statistic.

      • Toney Yates

It is Gov.Jay Nixon (DEM) who vetoed tax breaks for Mo small businesses ( employers) and is not set on doing whatever possible to get Boeing to build planes here. You see, small business does not make big campaign contributions, but Boeing will.

  • Buddy

race has nothing to do with it, and I am not a racist. I have no idea if the people wounded were white or black, or purple.. They were out late at night when bad things happen. It’s not a race issue, it’s a behaviour issue. If they were home with their famililes, they wouldn’t have been in that situation. And you are incorrect in your assumption “Most professionals are off work due to the holiday”.. They are not. I am in management, and my spouse is in the commercial insurance industry. We are both professionals and we are both at work today.

He will be billed, but the “affordable care act” will be his insurance, and we are all paying for that. When he doesn’t pay, we will have to.

  • Ms. Bri

Buddy & TK need to shut up and pray that next time it is not one of their family members who gets shot and end up on the news. Then have a ignorant person like themselves making dumb, ignorant comments like them!!

    • rherboth57@gmail.com

I didn’t see anything dumb or ignorant in their comments, only truth. Does this mean that you, too, believe in this violence? I wouldn’t think that anyone would want a family member killed or wounded in a violent act. People of all races are sick of these punks and their behavior. What is your solution to this problem? I’m open to your ideas, I doubt you would be open to mine.

    • TK

Ms. Bri – I do pray that nothing like this ever happens to any of my family members. But people make dumb decisions everyday. Be assured though, that if this would happen to any person in my family, that they would be held responsible and have insurance to pay for their stupid decision. They would also know that this is not acceptable behavior as they were raised to know the difference between right and wrong. That is the difference….

  • Buddy

@Ms Bri– My family won’t get shot in any of this nonsense, because we are responsible citizens with jobs, and common sense. We don’t go to these areas after dark SPECIFICALLY because of these types of incidences. None of my comments were “dumb” or “ignorant”.. You however sound very highley educated. Please tell me more about how stupid I am..

    • Sympathetic

How about the girl who was walking in the CWE – got shot and killed for her phone???? Did she not have a job? No insurance? Family that didn’t care? Please enlighten me on exactly what she did to make this happen to her? You know what they say when people say “it won’t happen to me”. We are HARDLY living in a perfect world.

  • Sympathetic

I still can’t understand why it always ends up being a race issue or being out too late, or whatever other CRAPPY EXCUSE is given for anything bad that happens. You know what, it happens in the morning, afternoon, night, Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, and it could be a white man or woman, black man or woman or any other color of the rainbow – man OR woman. The world we live in and they way people are now, is the only reason things like this happen. Doesn’t matter where you live, if you have a job, insurance, etc., WHATEVER. *&^% happens and that’s about all there is to it. WHY DON’T WE TRY TO GIVE OUR CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY MEMBERS THAT ARE LEFT TO PICK UP THE PIECES RATHER THAN GIVE OUR OPINIONS AS TO WHO DID WHAT AND WHY?????????????? Every single time, never fails, it ends up with everyone bashing each other and where they live. Everyone needs to GET OVER THEMSELVES and try to have a little sympathy/empathy for others FOR ONCE.

    • ByeByeToTheRite

That sounds all warm and fuzzy, Sympathetic, but like almost all warm and fuzzy solutions to every problem it’s just unrealistic and doesn’t SOLVE the problem. Having NO OPINION and just writing off everything like this as “it can happen anywhere to anybody” sounds good, but doesn’t solve the problem that there ARE bad people CAUSING PROBLEMS. So why shouldn’t we argue over who is to blame, because SOMEBODY is? Ironically, I somewhat would rather see a person have a strong opinion against mine than someone with NO opinion whatsoever, because that stance is heartwarming, but useless. Bottom line is these things do NOT “just happen”. It’s important to understand that to understand a solution. I happen to think that yes, Buddy and TK are correct that most of these incidents ARE caused by blacks, but we disagree on the reason and the cost – these are mostly a tragedy for the black community, and doesn’t cost us taxpayers much (not as much as the next Boeing handout, for example), but the reason is because many of these blacks have never had ANY opportunity to do anything else and have probably been treated so poorly that they grow up believing that’s just the way life is. And believing this is “just the way life is” is NOT going to stop it.

      • Sympathetic

And let me guess, you have a realistic solution? Please, enlighten me. I am hardly writing it off and I do have an opinion, that I clearly gave. You just think my opinion is wrong and, how did you put it, useless?
In my opinion, I am being realistic. I feel for the families that this has happened to and hope they find the strength to get through this time. If you think that is “useless” or you don’t agree, then I guess we agree to disagree.

oh and one last point. People our tax dollars pay for nothing in this country!!! The money utilized to operate our entire economy/society is all borrowed money!! our tax dollars don’t even cover the interest on the loans we continue to amass. The federal debt I believe is over 16 trillion and counting. That means we are in the red and have been in the red for decades!! What is happening is the folks on top are making money off the system of perpetual debt!! Real Ponzi scheme. Its real simple if I give u 5 dollars and you spend owe 15 with interest, how much money have u made.

  • Juventino Pablo Mendoza

TK=Hospitals run for profit can deduct unpaid medical bills from their taxes, and nonprofits, which make up the bulk of hospitals, can use unpaid bills in marketing campaigns for more federal assistance and fund-raising efforts.

    • rherboth57@gmail.com

JPM- If what you are saying is entirely true, then why are so many hospitals and Urgent Care facilities closing due to lack of money for operations?
